
Stop Letting Your Bathroom Heater Die in the Steam
You know those old-school “lamp” heaters? The ones that feel like a heat lamp at a buffet? They’re okay for a bit, but in a steamy bathroom, they usually don’t last. The problem is simple: they aren’t sealed. Steam gets inside, hits the electronics, and—pop—your heater is dead. That’s why we’ve moved over to IP65-rated infrared heating. It’s not about making it look pretty. It’s about keeping the water out so your heater doesn’t short circuit the second you take a hot shower.
What “IP65” actually means for you
In plain English, IP65 means the unit is totally dust-tight and can handle water jets hitting it from any direction. Think about what happens when you shower. Steam clings to everything and turns back into liquid droplets. In a cheap heater, those drops land right on the electrical terminals. That leads to rust, sparks, and a trip to the hardware store for a replacement. We fix this by using high-temp gaskets and special potting compounds. Basically, we wrap the electrical guts in a protective shell so the humidity never even touches them.
Why infrared feels different
Most heaters try to warm up the air. But air is terrible at holding heat. You end up standing there shivering while the ceiling gets warm. Infrared is different. It sends out short-wave radiation that hits your skin directly. It’s instant. No waiting around. To make this work in a smaller space, we use quartz tubes filled with halogen gas. This lets us pack a ton of heat into a tiny footprint without needing a massive, clunky machine on your wall.
The “Catch” (and how to handle it)
If you’re swapping out an old system, these are pretty easy to drop in. Just wire them into your current circuit. But—and this is a big but—check your breaker first. These tubes pull a lot of power the moment you flip the switch. Also, be careful where you put them. Because the heat is so concentrated, that quartz glass getsstunningly hot. Don’t mount them right next to plastic trim or anything that might melt. And for heaven’s sake, make sure they’re high enough that nobody’s going to accidentally touch them. This isn’t a gentle “mood” warmer. It’s a high-output tool. Treat it with a bit of respect, and it’ll keep you warm for years.
