
Getting the Heat Right in Your Husky HyPET System
If you’ve spent any time around high-speed PET blowing, you know the struggle. It’s not about how much power you throw at the preform; it’s about where that heat actually goes. The real headache is when the outside of the preform starts to scorch, but the center is still too cold to blow properly. We’ve been there. That’s why we built our replacement lamps to push the heat deeper into the wall of the plastic, rather than just searing the surface.
How we actually get the heat inside
It comes down to the wavelength. We messed around with the halogen gas pressure and the thickness of the quartz envelope to shift the light toward longer wavelengths. Basically, it lets the heat soak in. A lot of standard lamps hit a wall. The surface gets way too hot before the core even reaches the glass transition temperature. We fixed that by tweaking the filament geometry. It keeps the heat steady and kills those annoying “hot spots,” so the whole preform is pliable and ready to go.
No fuss, just plug and play
You don’t need to rewire your whole setup. These are simple drop-in replacements. We matched the footprint of the OEM lamps exactly, so they fit right in. Whether you’re running 230V or 400V, we’ve tuned the electrical resistance so they don’t just burn out the moment you start rapid cycling. We also used a high-grade quartz that can handle the thermal shock of a fast production line. And the connectors? They’re built tough. They won’t wiggle loose or start arcing just because the machine is vibrating.
A few things to watch out for
These lamps put out a lot of heat density. That’s the goal, but it means you have to stay on top of your oven’s airflow. Check your cooling blowers. If they’re clogged or just too weak, the oven housing can get too hot, which isn’t great for your wiring. Also, keep your reflectors spotless. If you’ve got carbon buildup on those mirrors, it doesn’t matter how good the lamp is—you’ll lose all those penetration gains. Give them a good clean and you’re set.
