
Stop letting your ovens slow you down
Most convection ovens just move hot air around. It works fine for bulk heating, but when you’re running a high-speed line, that air becomes a bottleneck. It’s just too slow. That’s why we bring in shortwave infrared (IR) heaters. Instead of waiting for the air to get hot, IR hits the food surface directly. It’s like stepping into the sun on a cold day—you feel the heat instantly. This means you can push more product through per minute without having to build a longer, more expensive conveyor belt. The secret to faster throughput IR energy travels in waves, so it doesn’t need air to carry it. We use this to “flash” the surface of the food or kill off pathogens fast. If your current cycle feels like it’s dragging, we can drop in a high-density radiant zone. You get to crank up the belt speed, but your product still hits the right core temperature. It’s a huge relief when you can finally stop worrying about the line backing up. The gear we use We usually go with quartz-halogen tubes. They pack a ton of heat into a very small space, which is great when floor space is tight. They plug right into your existing PLC systems for precise control, and we use standard connectors. Why? Because when it’s 2 AM and a part needs replacing, you want a quick swap, not a three-hour engineering project. Keeping it balanced Now, you can’t just blast the heat and call it a day. If you push the wattage too hard to shave off a few seconds, you’ll end up with scorched tops and raw centers. It’s a balancing act between the IR intensity and how fast that belt is moving. Plus, we have to be smart about shielding. If you don’t block the heat properly, you’ll end up warping your conveyor frame or frying your motor drives. Nobody wants that.
