
Can New IR Lamps Actually Speed Up Your Old Chumpower Machine?
If you’ve got an old Chumpower blow molding machine in your shop, you know the feeling. It starts to drag. Everything feels slower than it used to. Usually, the bottleneck is the oven. You start noticing those annoying “cold spots” or uneven heating in your PET preforms. Most people assume the machine is just getting old, but honestly? It’s usually just the infrared lamps giving out. The secret is in the heat. We build our replacement lamps to hit very specific wattage and voltage targets. The goal is to push more energy into the PET wall, faster. Think of it this way: if you swap out a tired, dim 230V lamp for one of our high-output versions, the preform doesn’t have to sit in the oven nearly as long. When the plastic heats up faster, you can finally crank up the machine speed without worrying about quality. No fancy rewiring needed. We use heavy-wall quartz glass so the tubes don’t bow or warp when things get hot. We also use a halogen cycle to keep the filament from evaporating, which means your lamps won’t dim out after a few weeks of hard work. Plus, we stick to the R7s or SK15 connector footprints. They just slide right in. You don’t have to spend your weekend rewiring the oven. One quick heads-up, though. More heat isn’t magic—it comes with a trade-off. If you go with a higher wattage than what the factory originally installed, the inside of your oven is going to get a lot hotter. You need to make sure your cooling fans and vents are actually doing their job. If your airflow is clogged or weak, you’re asking for trouble—either you’ll fry your electronics or burn the PET. Just do yourself a favor and check your current draw before you plug in a full set of upgrades. You want to make sure your power supply can actually handle the extra muscle.
