Krones Contiform S machines live and die by high-wattage shortwave IR lamps. They have to heat those preforms fast. We’ve dialed in the voltage and wattage on these tubes specifically to stop those annoying power surges that fry filaments. But here’s the thing: you can put in the fanciest lamp in the world, but if your reflectors are pitted or oxidized, you’re wasting your time. You won’t hit your target temperature if the heat has nowhere to go. The nitty-gritty on the build We use heavy-wall quartz glass. Why? Because rapid cycling is brutal, and cheap glass just can’t handle that kind of thermal shock. Depending on which generation of machine you’re running, these come with R7s or Sk15 connectors. You just pop them into your existing sockets. No adapters, no “making it work.” We also obsessed over the length. We measured these to the millimeter. If a lamp is even a tiny bit too long, it cracks when it expands. Too short? You get an arc at the contact point. Neither is a good day at the office. Real world advice These are built for the grind of a blow molding oven. Whether you’re running Sidel or Krones lines, they just slide in, which means less downtime when you’re swapping them out. One quick tip: if you’re running these at max wattage, your oven cavity is going to get seriously hot. Do yourself a favor and check your cooling blowers. Clear out the dust and debris. If the lamp ends overheat, they’ll fail way sooner than they should.
