Getting the Heat Right in Your Husky HyPET System
If you’ve spent any time with high-speed PET blowing, you know the struggle. You’re pushing for speed, but the heat just isn’t hitting where it needs to. The surface of the preform gets scorched, but the core stays cold. The result? Bottles that burst or walls that are way too thin in some spots and thick in others. It’s frustrating. Making the Heat Sink In
Most standard lamps just bounce energy off the surface of the PET. It’s like trying to warm up a room with a mirror. We do things differently. By tweaking the quartz and the filament, we shift the IR wavelength. We focus on short-wave IR, which doesn’t just sit on the surface—it sinks deep into the preform wall. This means you can crank up your cycle times. You get the speed you want without that “burnt plastic” smell or ruined batches.

A Couple of Things to Watch For
Here’s the catch: these lamps pack a serious punch. Because the heat density is so high, your oven’s ventilation has to work harder. Make sure your cooling blowers are actually clean and doing their job. If the airflow is clogged, all that extra radiant heat can actually warp your reflectors. And please, keep the tubes clean. A tiny bit of dust or a fingerprint of oil creates a hot spot. That hot spot leads to a crack, and a crack kills the lamp. A quick, regular cleaning is the only way to make sure these last as long as they should.
