
Stop the Glare: Making Bathroom Heaters Actually Comfortable
Ever stepped into a bathroom with one of those infrared heaters and felt like you were staring directly into the sun? It’s a common problem. Most of these lamps use short-wave radiation to get you warm fast, but they come with a side effect: a harsh, blinding white light. If you’ve got kids or babies in the house, that glare isn’t just annoying—it’s way too intense for their developing eyes. We decided to fix that.
Getting the light right
We don’t just let the lamp blast raw light. Instead, we use specific gas fills and coatings to dial back those bright peaks. The goal here isn’t to make it “look pretty.” It’s about keeping the heat while killing the glare. By cutting out the blue-light spectrum, we can take the stress off your retinas without losing the warmth you need to dry off in a chilly room. You get a soft, warm glow instead of a spotlight.
The guts of the machine
Inside, the heating element lives in a high-purity quartz tube. These things have to be tough. They go from freezing to 600°C in a heartbeat, and they can’t crack under that kind of pressure. To make it even safer, we added a diffused reflector. It basically scatters the light so you don’t get those blinding “hot spots” when you happen to glance up at the filament.
The trade-off (and how we handle it)
Here’s the honest truth: filtering light isn’t free. When you put a coating on a tube to block that harsh light, you lose a tiny bit of the infrared heat. It’s a small price to pay for your eyesight, but we didn’t want you to feel the difference. To make up for it, we just optimized the wattage of the filament. You still get the heat; you just don’t get the headache. One quick tip if you’re installing these:check your housing. Make sure your fixture is rated for the heat load. If you’re swapping a bulb in an old unit, double-check that the sockets can handle the current. If the socket is too weak for a high-wattage tube, it’ll burn out—and that’s a mess nobody wants.
