Making a 1500W Outdoor Heater That Actually Lasts
If you’re putting a 1500W infrared heater in a gazebo or a bathroom, you need more than just a powerful heating element. You need something that won’t quit the first time the weather turns. Here’s the thing: most ceiling heaters don’t fail because the coil burns out. They fail because the housing and the seals just give up when they hit moisture.
Why we obsess over “Damp-Heat” testing
We put every single batch of our lamps through some pretty brutal damp-heat aging tests. It’s not just a box we check. Think about a bathroom or a gazebo. You’ve got wild temperature swings and thick humidity. That creates condensation right on the electrical contacts. If you don’t account for that, the terminals oxidize, you get arcing, and then—boom—the whole circuit burns out. We simulate years of those humidity cycles just to make sure the seal stays tight.
Power, heat, and a bit of caution
A 1500W rating is what you need to actually fight off the wind chill when you’re sitting outside. We use shortwave infrared, which means the heat hits you directly. It doesn’t waste time trying to warm up the air around you. The best part? You get all that warmth without needing a massive, ugly fixture hanging from your ceiling. But there is a catch. At 1500W, the reflector getshot. Really hot. Just make sure you mount it at the right height so you don’t accidentally scorch your ceiling.
The little things that matter
We use reinforced quartz glass and coatings that fight off corrosion. We did this because we hate that “cloudy” look cheap lamps get after a few months. We also tighten the connectors to a very specific torque. Why? Because metal expands and shrinks as it heats up and cools down. If those connectors aren’t perfect, they loosen over time. We built these to be simple, drop-in replacements. You shouldn’t have to rewire your entire outdoor electrical grid just to get some heat.
